practice makes perfect

"A man finds room in the few square inches of his face for the traits of all his ancestors; for the expression of all his history, and his wants." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson, Conduct of Life

"There are mystically in our faces certain characters which carry in them the motto of our souls, wherein he that cannot read A, B, C may read our natures." ~Sir Thomas Browne

I'm not sure what it is about faces that I find so intriguing. They say the eyes are the window to the soul. I guess you can tell a lot about a person just by looking intently at their face. I think that's what's so much fun about drawing a portrait. It's not just about copying someones likeness, but bringing out their personality, emotion, and really their life through just a little piece of charcoal.
